2017 Season
“A Success” For Rosehill Football The Rosehill Christian Eagles finished the 2017 Season with a loss at Reicher Catholic in Waco on November 17th. The loss; however, does not tell the story of a year in which the Eagles bounced back time and time again, from injury and adversity to post the second 6 win season in 3 years. It was also the 2nd play-off appearance as well in the same length of time. Highlights of the season included finishing 3rd in the District (out of 10 teams) and two heart stopping overtime wins over Woodlands Christian and Lutheran North. The Eagles also finished with a winning record at home and on the road during the regular season. Twelve Senior Eagles played their last game in Waco. Erik Johnson, Matthew Carroll, Cash Kelso, Brandon De Soto, Ricky Gutierrez, Jon Ragusa, Zach Kley, Cliff Manning, Parker Bankston, Blake Clayton, Stephen Weidenheft, and Braydon Lambert. Manning and Kelso were both recognized by the Touchdown Club of Houston as members of their Pre-Season All-Houston Team. The Eagles will graduate their leading tackler Cliff Manning with 138 Tackles and the leading pass defender Erik Johnson who had 5 interceptions on the year. Senior Matthew Carroll was the leader in all purpose yardage with 665 yards and Carroll and Junior Colin Fussell both recovered two Fumbles each. Special Teams leaders included Erik Johnson with a 30.8 punting average and 10 kicks downed inside the 20. Freshman Placekicker Brady Ward was 22/23 on Extra Points and 3/4 on Field Goals. Sophomore DreVonte Green led the team in Rushing with 466 yards and Junior McCray Kelton finished with 39 catches for 454 yards. Both Green and Kelton missed 2 games due to injury. Junior Cameron Castillo completed 72 passes for 904 yards and 7 Touchdowns to help the Eagles offense in 2017. Green, Hans Barrios, and Ward were 1,2,3 in scoring with 42, 40, and 30 respectively. The class of 2018 leaves behind a strong legacy with a 16-14 regular season record (with two play-off appearances) over the last 3 years compared to 11-16 the previous 3 years. The Eagles have been true to their moto “Brick by Brick” as the past three teams have laid a firm foundation for a very promising future. |

Rosehill Christian set to play season opener in Rice Stadium
By Kevin Cook [email protected]
TOMBALL – Rosehill Christian School will play Northside at Rice Stadium Thursday, Aug. 25 in a season-opening game that promises to be as much an event as contest.
On the heels of the first playoff season in school history, the Eagles are continuing to expand upon success by offering players and the Rosehill community the opportunity to see a game played in a historic venue.
Rosehill head coach Bruce Lane relishes the chance to not only play in a 70,000 seat arena that once played host to the Super Bowl, but also to take advantage of a Thursday evening game and draw fans and onlookers the team might ordinarily not see at a typical Friday night game.
“For us, it is going to be one of first games in the state of Texas, played on a Thursday night,” Lane said. “It allows our program to be one of the first games in the area. That gives an opportunity for curiosity seekers to come out and take a look at Rosehill Christian.”
Lane, making the most of the opportunities he is afforded, hopes that the contest will bring in some new eyes and give the city of Houston a chance to see what Rosehill football has been developing.
“The big thing is that it really gives our program the opportunity to be seen by people who, typically, on a Friday night would be going to support their team,” Lane said. “There’s a guy named Frosty Westering who coached at Pacific Lutheran and he said, ‘Make the big time where you are.’ We obviously are not a 5 or 6A school, but we’re trying to give the kids who come through our program the best opportunities and the best experiences that we can.”
Rice Stadium has played an integral role in Houston’s history, both within the sporting world and in a larger sense, and Lane believes the momentousness of the locale will lend some weight to the season’s first game.
“It’s a great atmosphere and a great environment for our kids and our families,” Lane said. “The history behind Rice Stadium in the Houston area, whether it be the Super Bowl or John F. Kennedy’s speech, there’s just a lot of it. School and athletics are about making memories that they can take with them for the next 60-plus years of their lives.”
Lane and Rosehill plan on turning the game into an event, operating under the Westering ‘big-time where you are’ philosophy.
“We’re going to have a Christian recording artist that’s going to sing the national anthem and perform a little mini-concert in pre-game,” Lane said. “We want it to be an event, not just a game, that will reach out and touch all areas that might interest people. That’s the great thing about football, is that it can really solidify and bring together your school family.”
Lane believes the Rice Stadium game will show off to a wider audience what he and others in the area already know about Rosehill.
“I think we are, right now, one of the best-kept secrets in the Houston area,” Lane said. “That’s one of the things that we hope we’re able to do, is let people find out a little bit about us by doing these kinds of things.”

Spring Break and Football
Spring Break usually means trips to the beach and and fun in the sun; however, some members of the Rosehill Football family have found some time to devote to football. Sophomore Chris Jackson, who was an All-District Selection at Kicker, spent part of his break attending a kicking camp hosted by Kicking World at Westfield High School in Houston.
Jackson converted on all 17 PAT's and was 2 for 2 on Field Goals in 2015. He has been working hard in the off-season to increase his distance and leg Strength.'
Coach Bruce Lane and Coach Christian Lane also have spent some time on football during the break. They attended Baylor's Spring Practice on March 15th. The Bears did both individual and team drills during the efficient one hour and forty-five minute practice. The staff also earlier visited HBU's spring practice and is planning on attending U of H drills later this month.

Dear Family and Friends,
By now all of you are aware that this week we lost our good brother, Jason Williams. News like this is very troubling to all of us and we might wonder if the Lord really knows what in the world He is doing.
I assure you that the Lord was not caught off guard; but welcomed Jason with open arms into his eternal home. For Jason and all who have accepted Jesus as their Savior, we know that his eternal destination is far superior to this crummy world. Jesus truly loved us through Jason.
Please pray for Jason's entire family. He was an integral part of our staff, supplying each of us ongoing joy and a willingness to make our world a better place to live moment by moment. His creativity with technology and marketing acumen, adeptly coaching a variety of sports, coupled with his extraordinary ability to create outstanding routines for our cheer program will be missed.
Jason's family has decided that they will be celebrating his life with family on July 10th in Oklahoma. They have graciously asked if we would consider having a memorial service at RCS so his family and friends and students could attend. I told them we would be honored.
In concert with their family's schedule and the school, we have set aside July 29th @ 2:00 in our gymnasium. This will be a time to reflect on the impact that Jason had on so many lives and to be an encouragement to his immediate family.
We will open the time up for folks to share what Jason meant to them during this time. If you want to share we are asking you to email or call Beth Wright to let her know in advance. (281) 935-4356 or [email protected]. She will talk to you about your content and the time limit that we will have to consider.
His family has asked that in lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in his memory to Rosehill Christian School and/or to the American Diabetes Association at www.diabetes.com.
Please wait for further details on this celebration service.
Sincerely,
DEAN D. UNSICKER

Lane ready for new chapter in Texas
Michael De Leon
March 12, 2015
Houston area private school Rosehill Christian (Tomball) made the jump to 11-man football three years ago but they needed a coach to lead the team in the next stage of the young school’s history.
No stranger to Texas high school football, Rosehill has named Bruce Lane as the team’s head coach. Lane has coached in Texas, Georgia and South Carolina and comes to Rosehill with 31 years of coaching experience.
Lane previously coached in Texas at another Houston-area school, Fort Bend Christian Academy. There he was also named the head coach of the south team for the inaugural SportsMarketingExperts.com Bowl, a bowl game showcasing the best private school talent across the state.
Aside from looking forward to coaching at Rosehill, Lane says he is excited to have the chance to return to Houston.
“The Houston area is such a great area to live in. We were fortunate and blessed to have been at Fort Bend for three years and be part of that program,” Lane said in an interview with TexasHSFootball.com. “There’s lots of places you can live but three of the best years of our life as a family were spent in Houston. It’s what I would call a major league city.”
Lane still has an obligation to fill at Wilson Hall South Carolina, but has already been in contact with coaches at Rosehill in hopes of transitioning the Eagles quickly.
“I think the thing that’s exciting about it is that it’s a young program. They have had great success as a six-man program,” Lane said. “Coach Lynn Shelby and coach Ryan Anthony did a great job of laying a strong foundation for the 11-man program and made it a really strong transition.”
Lane says he hopes to be in Tomball in May for an abbreviated set of Spring practices and then be on campus on June 1 for offseason workouts.
“Everybody coaches a little bit different and hopefully it will remove some anxiety because everybody’s a little anxious about every time there’s change and what it’s going to mean to them. That three or four days gives us an opportunity to take a look at kids and put them in the right spots,” Lane said.
I think you make your football team in June and July. If we’re able to do a good enough job of that, then August will be a pretty smooth transition.”
While other states have big high school football followings, the common knowledge is that football is king in Texas, and it was part of the allure in Lane returning to Texas instead of going home to Georgia.
“I’m excited. Football is very important to the state of Texas. Texas football has a great reputation and we’re looking forward to going over and being part of continuing to build upon the foundation and seeing that program grow and develop into something that can be really special,” Lane said.
But something else also affected Lane’s decision to accept the Rosehill job.
“I’ve been very fortunate in my 31 years of coaching and 26 as a head coach to have worked at some really, really good schools. Academics have been important, and obviously Rosehill is no exception,” he said. “I think what enticed me most about the job aside from getting back into Texas and building relationships with this group of people is just the opportunity to be in a Christian school, and to have the freedom to share.”
That’s really a huge part of my excitement is getting to be around those young people and developing some relationships and being able to hopefully see these young men grow in christ as well.”
Lane said the job opportunity was not something that was expected. Lane had announced he would be resigning from Wilson Hall after three seasons and was expected to be making travel plans for Georgia.
“We’re excited. Obviously this is something that is kind of a God thing, it wasn’t something we were expecting, but we’re excited about the opportunity,” Lane said. “I’m just so appreciative of the administration at Rosehill for giving me this opportunity. We’re truly blessed to be part of something truly special. There are so many good people there and I’m just looking forward to being a part of that Rosehill family.”

Week of Champions....
Coming in June!!!
Starting in June the Eagles will begin summer workouts with the Week Of Champions event. Below is a video from the University of Arizona that can give the Eagles and their fans an idea of what to expect. The event is open to everyone and is a great way to kick-off off-seaon workouts...We have been using this concept the past 10 years with great results.
"Gentlemen, we will chase perfection, and we will chase it relentlessly, knowing all the while we can never attain it. But along the way, we shall catch excellence.”
